An Aircraft Carrier Under Attack: USS Enterprise at the Battle of the Eastern Solomons
This video reviews archival footage shot on August 24th, 1942 during the Battle of the Eastern Solomons. The legendary USS Enterprise (CV-6) withstood a quick and brutal air attack in which she was hit 3 times by Japanese bombs and had 4 near misses. This dramatic footage shows the carrier's evasive maneuvering and some the damage she received that afternoon. Also included, is more footage of her operating in much the same manner about a month later during the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands.

USS Wisconsin BB 64 - "Big Whiskey"
Переглядів 35 тис.21 день тому
Warship Guide - USS Wisconsin BB-64 USS Wisconsin is a legendary warship that entered service after the traditional role of the battleship had evolved. Built to slug it out with ships of the line such as herself, Wisconsin, or Big Whiskey as she’s affectionately known, instead found herself protecting the vitally important carriers of the US Fleet off the coast of Japan during the final year of...
The Alaska Class - "Large Cruiser or Battlecruiser?"
Переглядів 28 тис.Місяць тому
Warship Guide - The Alaska Class USS Alaska (CB-1) & USS Guam (CB-2) The Alaska class has been referred to in many ways over the years, from super cruisers to unrestricted cruisers, to battlecruisers, but, officially, they were designated as Large Cruisers by the US Navy. They were quite impressive warships that had the size of a battleship but the capabilities of a cruiser. Named after territo...
USS South Dakota BB 49 - The Original SoDak Class
Переглядів 3,2 тис.Місяць тому
Warship Guide - USS South Dakota BB 49 The six battleships of the South Dakota class would have been powerful and absolutely marvelous ships that would have been the culmination of US battleship design at the time. Unfortunately though, with the cancellation of this class and the moratorium on new capital ships, the US Navy would have to wait almost 20 years before designing and building anothe...
USS Wasp CV 7 - "Another Good Sting"

Warship Guide - USS Wasp CV-7 USS Wasp was the sole member of her class and a direct result of the interwar treaties. Even though the US Navy had just commissioned an undersized carrier, the USS Ranger, a few years prior and knew that 15,000 tons was not enough tonnage to build the carrier they wanted, the thought process was that having something was better than having nothing, especially with...
Operation Hailstone - Attacking the Gibraltar of the Pacific
Переглядів 93 тис.Місяць тому
In February 1944, the US Navy conducted an attack, Codenamed Operation Hailstone, on the major Japanese naval base located at Truk Atoll. This raid was an important step for the US, as Truk was an anchorage for major elements of the Japanese Combine Fleet and its airfields enabled the Japanese to ferry aircraft to their remote bases throughout the Central and South Pacific. There were also subm...
USS Indiana - The Hoosier Houseboat

Warship Guide - USS Indiana BB-58 USS Indiana was not as famous as her sisters but was still a gallant fighting ship in her own right. Often the forgotten SoDak, she saw extensive action in the Pacific theater during World War 2 and earned 9 battle stars for her efforts. Nicknamed “Indy” and also "The Hoosier Houseboat", she was the second battleship of the South Dakota class to be built. Her g...
USS Ranger CV 4 - No Conversion Necessary
Переглядів 18 тис.2 місяці тому
Warship Guide - USS Ranger CV 4 USS Ranger was a major stepping stone in the evolution of the aircraft carrier for the US Navy, as she was the first vessel designed and built from the keel up as an aircraft carrier. Named in honor of the famous sloop of war of the Continental Navy, she was undersized and under-powered and viewed as too slow to serve with the Pacific Fleet's fast carrier task fo...

Переглядів 286 тис.2 місяці тому
Warship Guide - USS Helena CL-50 USS Helena, the 2nd member of the St. Louis class of light cruisers, is quite possibly the most famous cruiser to ever serve in the United States Navy. During night engagements in the waters off Guadalcanal, she blasted away at elements of the Imperial Japanese Navy with such ferociousness and pace that the American press dubbed her “The Machine Gun Cruiser”, as...

But Did They Get The Important Enigma Machine On Board The German Sub???
Did not know that.
headed down there in a couple of weeks.
Love is😊
Thank you ❤❤❤❤
I'll see your 6in shell, and Raise you 10in 🤣
Never mess with the U S Navy
Question please ⁉️ didn't two of the American boarding party sink with the sub
Not at all...Lieutenant Ross Bullard and Boatswain’s Mate First Class C. S. Hall jumped aboard the U-boat and opened the hatch but saw bodies floating in the flooded compartment below. The main deck of the sub was already awash. They quickly cut the line and disembarked back into their boat and began picking up survivors. Spencer only had 1 crew member killed as a result of this engagement, Radioman Third Class Julius Petrella. He and 25 others sustained wounds from the friendly fire during the melee after U 175 surfaced.
U S Navy hell ya
Wow
But they didn't get the enigma machine , Royal Navy had got one of those already with the code books
The greatest generation will never be matched will never be equaled. Generation Z is gonna have to do a lot better with their offspring, then what the millennials did with them
The picture at 18:30 of both USS Washington and USS North Carolina was taken from the USS Alaska or USS Guam which were just in front of both Battleships.
Play stupid games, win awsome prizes.
Go coasties!

Wow, I had no idea this was done by a Coast Guard Cutter! Good show Spencer! ❤️🇺🇸
My best friend's wife's father and his brother spent 4 yrs aboard the USS Massachusetts during WWll.
I am eternally grateful for the fine ships and the fine sea Fighters that crude and fought them,I remember my mother who was born during that time period I was told her name Helen , she was called Ellen was named for family friends that served a board that Mighty worship!❤😂😊
I think this strategy would work better on a bouncy table
That’s a pretty full day
@michaeldoonan1429 Yes, not long before D-Day. They had to destroy it because if the Germans found out the US had one they would have changed the codes. The only one that matter was the one captured in 1940/41 by the RN/RCN
Last American 16” shells fired in anger? I think it was around 1982 with an American ship firing into Lebanon. I remember hearing the shells were like the size of Volkswagens. I thought at the time, “Well, that will sort things out quickly.” Idiot.
The US used wooden decks, while the Brits armoured theirs, which were better able to withstand this sort of damage. Both types had advantages.
But they got the enigma And we finally broke the German codes because of that.❤
What finally ended the war was the massive underwear shortage created by this action.
not the worst computer generated narration
That’s a bad ass spicy Volvo shooting gunslinger
Big Wisky
God Bless the Coast Guard, then and now.
Amazing Footage !!!
So the IJN southern fleet suffered the same fate as the russian baltic fleet 39 years before
Why is that so amusing? Just like how Dirty Harry would have dealt with the delinquents.
That's because the frogs did not want to hand over the ships to the allieds The French had already surrendered to the Germans These clowns decided to not hand over the ships cowards as they were. Seems the French have a long history of cowardness.....
Go Coast Guard
That U-Boat is still sitting in the North Atlantic
Semper Paratus 🇺🇸
Don't mess with Buckey Badger!!
This fleet suffered another two ships' damaged and Radio Tokyo announced the huge victory with American ships destroyed. They staged a victory parade. When this news made the Pacific Fleet's airways, Admiral Halsey wanted to turn his 'sunken fleet' around and attack some more. THAT too made the desks of the Toyko Brass who realized their brags were untruthful.
Exciting stuff.
Thank you ❤❤❤❤❤
I remember seeing on Battle 360 they were doing a thing about the Enterprise and they had a guy that was aboard the USS North Carolina talking about their first battle. And how a lot of them got that date tatood on their wrist. Seems like it was October 25th 1942 but I'm not sure. But also, one of the guys on USS Enterprise said that they thought that North Carolina had gotten hit but it was cuz of all the anti-aircraft fire & smoke that it just appeared like it was on fire. I'm sure that Enterprise was really glad when she showed up. I also heard the same thing about the cruiser USS Atlanta that when it was firing all of it's AA guns that it appeared to be on fire from bow to stern. ❤❤❤❤ Lot's of LOVE for the guys that fought for our freedom that we enjoy today. It's such an honor to be able to hear some of their stories today. I hope GOD has a special place in heaven for all of those that fought against the Evil Imperialism that they defeated in WW2. I can not express the amount of gratitude I feel towards that generation. And I'm constantly amazed at the hell they went through. Seeing buddies ripped to pieces knowing there is nothing they can do but keep fighting and try to get it over with asap. One man saying that out of 300 in his division that landed on Iwo Jima that only 18 of them survived. And when they were finally releaved that they were pointed to the cemetery so they could say goodbye to their buddies that didn't make it. He said that it wasn't 5 guys that raised that flag at Iwo Jima. It was about 300 of them & 282 never got to leave.
Howard Hughes invented the Zero
So,anyway,I started blasting..."
That's a sharp lookout! Imagine if he had blown it off and someone had gone over.
I heard this in World of warships and I was wondering where it came from lol
The ocean is not so big after all.
